Breanna White turned her interests in interiors into her first business, called White Willow Loft, specializing in vintage and farmhouse-inspired decor and furnishings.
“I’ve always loved interior design and trends. I really like playing with different textures and seeing things come to life,” the Lindsay native said.
“When I sold my house in Bobcaygeon I decided it was time to start a business.”
White first opened the store’s doors in the spring, but closed them briefly for renovations to improve flow. The work doubled the store’s space, allowing White to further expand her product lines, and she marked it all with a second “grand opening” on July 22.
The majority of products sold at the store are made in Canada. White also produces a range of 100% natural soy wax candles.
In a way, White’s product lines could be called “neutral pieces” because they not only complement existing decor, but offer a unique addition to any design. This is a significant benefit to his many real estate and staging clients.
She particularly enjoys providing advice and suggestions to clients, citing one of the biggest mistakes people make when decorating their spaces gets too dark with their design elements.
“There’s nothing wrong with using a touch of navy blue or black here and there, but too much can really affect the mood of a room,” White said. “That’s why I like to offer a wide range of items that can help make everything light and bright.”
Adding white using color as an accent – especially certain colors like red and yellow – can really make the right statement in a room.
She also stresses that “size matters” when it comes to furniture.
“Bulky furniture can make a room seem smaller. The right accents can help minimize this, but it’s best to start simple and add on. Trends change so often and it’s easier and cheaper to just replace pillows than an entire sofa,” White said. “Of course, it all depends on the vibe you’re going for… splashes of blue and peach combined with a lap or wood plank accent wall provide a coastal feel for example.”
Sometimes a collection of baskets or a beautifully laid table can make all the difference.
