Walter E. Smithe plans store outside of traditional footprint

ITASCA, Ill. — Top 100 retailer Walter E. Smithe Furniture & Design’s next store will be outside of its traditional Midwest footprint.

As first reported by Gulfshore Business, the Itasca, Illinois-based retailer, whose 10 showrooms are all in the greater Chicagoland area, plans to open in Naples, Fla. here the beginning of 2023.

Walter E. Smithe plans to build to renovate a commercial building on Tamiami Trail near US 41 in Naples that was most recently an Orchard Supply Hardware before parent company Lowe’s closed the brand in 2018.

When complete, the 34,000 square foot showroom will house the company’s full line of furniture and décor and offer interior design services. The report notes that starting this month, clients in Florida can begin working on their projects with Smithe’s designers from home.

Furniture Today has contacted Walter E. Smithe officials for additional details. This story will be updated.
